Environmental Stewardship

We recognize that leadership plays a critical role in climate change, the Executive Director is the Board level representative that oversees climate change. We fully support regulation and policies that mitigate the effects of climate change. We also recognize that our range of products and business under the Group need to continuously adhere to our green objective.

Recognising our pivotal role in mitigating climate risks, we remain steadfast in our commitment to responsible environmental practices, ensuring our business’s resilience to climate change. Our initiatives encompass the conservation of energy, water as well as the prevention of pollution and the reduction of emissions and waste. Our target aligns with Malaysia’s pledge to achieve Net Zero by 2050 and supports the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature increase to 1.5°C.

Climate Action

We are committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. We are establishing a timeline with interim targets to ensure that we stay on the right track. This roadmap comprises our Scope 1 and 2 emissions. We are enhancing our strategies to cut energy consumption and switch to renewable power.

  • Using solar energy to power our operations with the usage of electrified cranes and EV forklifts.
  • Provision of EV charging stations to encourage employees to transition to EVs.
  • Changing lights, air conditioners and electrical appliances to sensor based operations.
  • Careful route planning and scheduling to optimise the journey by reducing travelling time.
  • Progressive addition of EVs into the transportation fleet.
  • Promoting behavioural changes with our employees to encourage energy efficiency and consumption

Waste and Circularity

We are enabling steps to align with consumer expectations and regulatory requirements to be a responsible business. We are committed towards safeguarding our environment by strategically managing our waste disposal. We track the total waste generated across our Groups so we can maximise the circularity within our processes. We have expanded our recycling initiatives by acquiring a 51% stake in Intergreen Metals and Kian Sen Metal, two companies that recycle metals. Our internal recycling efforts have also expanded to fabric recycling.
The Group is conscious of its environmental performance and ensures that it complies with the standards stipulated by the Department of Environment.

Water Management

Only 3% of Earth’s freshwater is available. By 2030, according to the United Nations, the global freshwater demand is expected to exceed supply by 40%. We understand how critical our role is to ensure that we use water responsibly, with proper management and protection. We realise our management plans need to serve our present needs and our future development. To that end, we are committed to reducing our water usage by increasing our efficiency across the Group.

This primarily encompasses designing our water management strategy.
The Group is taking positive steps as we play a critical role in ensuring we deliver on our water commitments. Our strategy includes:

    • Measurement: Understanding our current water usage and intensity, and determining a baseline.
    • Identification: Analysing data to find areas of improvement.
    • Tracking: Setting targets to reduce consumption followed by regular review.
    • In our continuous effort to reduce water, we are implementing steps to encourage the use of rainwater harvesting across the group. In addition to this, we run regular checks for leak detection and repair. Consistent checks on water consumption are necessary to avoid wastage.
